CoActiv Debuts a Platform for Every Preference, Delivering PACS Your
Way

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. — Highlighted by a revolutionary new touch-screen viewing system for the
popular Apple iPhone, CoActiv (Booth 7544) introduces an EXAM-PACS
platform for every user preference at RSNA 2009–including Windows 7,
Mac OS X with the current OsiriX DICOM viewer and the new OsiriX viewer
with FDA clearance.

As physicians become increasingly mobile throughout the medical
environment and work in a wide range of settings beyond their offices
and computers, immediate, reliable image access is imperative,? comments
Ed Heere, President and CEO of CoActiv Medical. What better way to
provide this than enabling physicians to access imaging workflow right
on their iPhones.?

To provide its exciting new image display platform, CoActiv EXAM-PACS
introduces bi-directional integration with the award-winning OsiriX
Mobile viewer, which runs on the iPhone itself. With EXAM-PACS unique
server level integration, no special software is required other than the
OsiriX viewer running on the phone.

Its simple. Users download the application to their device, and they
can begin viewing images immediately,? said Heere. We adopted this
approach because OsiriX has long been the most widely used and top
performing Mac OS X DICOM viewer, and its success speaks for itself.
Whats more, the application downloads in minutes and is available from
Apple for just a nominal charge. While others may claim to have iPhone
viewing capabilities for their PACS products in development?,
CoActiv has a full featured solution available TODAY!?

iPhone users connect via WIFI to the CoActiv EXAM-PACS server and can
search for exams by patient name, accession number, modality and much
more. Exams download to their device instantly and securely using DICOM
Query/Retrieve. And, by utilizing a special send command,
EXAM-PACS PC users also can instantly push exams to a registered users
iPhone. Once displayed, images can be analyzed on the touch screen using
a full range of traditional PACS tools, including scroll, pan, zoom and
window & level and measurement functions. All image manipulations and
annotations may be saved locally on the device as JPG files and
forwarded to anyone, anywhere in the world using either messaging or
regular email. An option to remove patient identification ensures these
transmissions are in full HIPAA compliance.

New EXAM-PACS bi-directional support for OsiriX Mobile is included free
of charge in all current CoActiv EXAM-PACS Server releases

Research and Markets: Key Development Features of the Chinese Pharma Outsourcing Industry in 2009 and Its Development Outlook in 2010

Business Wire, Nov 23, 2009

DUBLIN — Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/21c0f7/china_pharma_outso)
has announced the addition of the “China
Pharma Outsourcing Annual Review 2009″ report to their offering.

It has been well recognized that 2009 is a rough year to all types of
industries worldwide. The financial crisis has significantly altered
both pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries on global scale. The
pharma outsourcing industry, both globally and in China, has also been
significantly affected. The Chinese pharma outsourcing industry suffered
a significant setback in 2009 if compared with the growth path of all
its previous years.

However, even though a significant decrease in outsourcing demand was
seen in almost every service sector of the Chinese pharma outsourcing
industry, its growth rate in 2009 is still so significant that could
make many of its rivals envy. In addition to the numerous advantages
China still possesses in pharma outsourcing, a number of new factors
also contributed to the further growth of the Chinese industry in 2009.

Encouraged by a large number of organizations and professionals that are
interested in this Chinese industry and that are eagerly seeking clues
of how the Chinese industry has been doing under the shadow of the
global financial crisis and how it will likely move in 2010, in this
Annual Review, we present the latest update of our research results on
this Chinese industry.

The Review starts with our in-depth analysis of how the global pharma
and biotech industries have been affected by the crisis and the impacts
of these changes on the global pharma outsourcing. It is then followed
by our detailed analysis of how the Chinese pharma outsourcing industry
has weathered the storm in the last twelve months or so.

The Review also well summarized all major events happened in 2009
including the outsourcing activities in China by drug companies from all
over the world, both major pharma and R&D-focused; biotech companies.

Also presented in the Review are the outlooks, based on our in-depth
analysis and study, of how the global pharma outsourcing in general and
the Chinese pharma outsourcing in specific will likely move in 2010.

The most distinct feature of the Review is the inclusion of the current
top ten professional pharma outsourcing service providers in the Chinese
pharma outsourcing industry, including the detailed description and
company profile of each player. To the best of our knowledge, this is
the first time that the top ten players of the Chinese pharma
outsourcing industry are successfully identified.

The Review will help readers not only gain a clear and deep insight into
what has happened to the Chinese pharma outsourcing industry in the past
year but also better understand how it will likely move next year. It is
a must-read book to all organizations and professionals in the
industries of pharmaceutical, biotechnology, outsourcing service and
financial investment that are interested in pharmaceutical outsourcing
in China.

Key Development Features of Chinese Pharma Outsourcing Industry in 2009
and Its Development Outlook in 2010

  • The financial crisis has directly resulted in the significant
reduction in R&D; spending industry-wide. It in turn resulted in the
drastic decrease in the outsourcing demands. However, a more
    significant decrease occurred in the R&D-focused; biotech industry;
whereas the outsourcing demands by the major pharma companies did not
    decrease significantly.
  • In fact, what has been changed in the outsourcing demands by those
major pharma companies is their research focus. As they now have more
drug products in late development stages, their outsourcing focuses
have been on further developing them. As a result, the outsourcing
demands by the major companies for lead discovery and/or early stage
development services have become significantly decreased.
  • Before the beginning of 2009, we analyzed the possible impacts of the
financial crisis on the Chinese pharma outsourcing industry including
each service sector and made predictions of how this Chinese industry
would likely develop in 2009. Now after one year since the arrival of
the crisis, it has turned out that the market development of this
Chinese industry, including all its service sectors, has been well in
    line with our predictions.
  • Although still having performed relatively well compared to many of
its counterparts in the world, overall, the Chinese pharma outsourcing
industry did experience a significant growth slowdown in 2009.
  • The most affected sectors are the drug discovery and contract
manufacturing, each having a growth rate of only about 10-12% in 2009

NATIONWIDE Building Society has revealed a big fall in profits and painted a gloomy economic picture.

Nationwide made pounds 143m in the six months to October, down almost two-thirds from pounds 374m.

Boss Graham Beale accused ministers of “distorting” the savings market. He also blamed record low interest rates and a pounds 243m surge in bad debts, largely due to a “dramatic fall in commercial property prices. Rising unemployment would hit house prices next year and slow the recovery, he warned.

Beale said: “Looking ahead, we expect the remainder of this year and next to present a very difficult trading environment.” The recent rise in house prices was due to a shortage of homes for sale and “growth in unemployment throughout 2010 will inevitably exert downward pressure on prices”

Wynn better because of TCU defense

0 Comments | Deseret News (Salt Lake City), Nov 19, 2009 | by Dirk Facer Deseret News

Jordan Wynn insists he’s a better quarterback now than he was a week ago. The Utah freshman credits TCU’s highly touted defense for the improvement.

“I’ve gained so much experience,” Wynn said as the Utes prepare for their home finale Saturday against San Diego State.

Wynn completed 16-of-32 passes for 219 yards and a touchdown at Fort Worth. He was sacked twice and intercepted once in the 55-28 setback to the fourth-ranked Horned Frogs.

“I think it’ll be a big positive for Jordan Wynn. I thought he handled himself very well,” said Utah coach Kyle Whittingham. “Even though his numbers weren’t spectacular, he hung in there. He was getting hit quite often. He showed a great deal of resiliency. I thought he was poised and confident in the pocket.”

Wynn, he added, will be a better quarterback in the future because of it.

Offensive coordinator Dave Schramm seconds that motion. He said Wynn is getting better each and every day.
