New Web Application for Action Figure Collectors Makes Collecting Easier and More Affordable

PR Newswire, Oct 22, 2009

Collector-ActionFigures.com Offers World’s Best Action Figure Catalog, Simple Collection Inventory, and Astonishing, Original 360 Degree Photography

ATLANTA, Oct. 22 /PRNewswire/ — Collector-ActionFigures.com launched today the first web application for action figure collectors which includes the world’s largest and most accurate online action figure database. The application provides access to over 30,000 action figures and 700 different brands, and the application is stocked with over 40,000 original, high-resolution photographs. Action figure collectors can now harness the power of an internet application to better learn about figures, build a community resource, and better manage their own collections.

“I’ve been an action figure collector for over 20 years,” said Kevin Stark, curator of the Action Figure Museum (http://www.actionfiguremuseum.com/). “What these guys have done is the most significant application and resource for action figure collectors ever built. They have taken the best parts of a great collectors’ book, put it online for everyone to use and contribute to and blended it with incredible, interactive photography and great collection management software. Action figure collectors are going to love it today, and even more when the Marketplace is launched later.”

The proprietary DASH 360 photographic system is one way that Collector-ActionFigures.com makes collecting more fun and educational. Instead of small, poor quality pictures of items, the application features high-resolution photographs of thousands of action figures that enable members to turn the figure around, reading even the smallest print on the back of the package. The innovative full screen viewer brings the details out completely maximizing the value of today’s large PC displays. 27 fields of information are provided per figure, and the Action Figure mba online degrees Universe maintains a meaningful structure, enabling collectors to interact and learn about whole series of figures they may have never even known about. Built as a Wiki-style, community-maintained database, collectors are encouraged to upload their own photos of figures and fill in information that may be missing.

With its simple “Got It” and “Want It” interface, Collector-ActionFigures.com has delivered the simplest and most accurate collection management system online. Collectors can record specific details about their items, and inventory their collection in the application. Collectors can also prepare themselves for the opening of the Collector-ActionFigures.com Marketplace. The Marketplace will offer members zero-transaction fee buying and selling, as well as an innovative system for pairing members’ wanted lists with other members ‘willing to trade’ lists.

“We aren’t action figure collectors. We are software professionals who saw that collectors’ best tools were eBay and Excel – generic tools,” said Bill Jones, CEO of CollectorDASH. “We built this application to deliver the power of a collaborative, modern software application for people to embrace their collecting passions. It represents a radical departure from dealer, manufacturer or fan sites, enabling real software functionality coupled with unparalleled action figure content.”

Application Availability

Collector-ActionFigures.com is available, starting today. Visitors can browse the Action Figure Universe. Registered Guests of the application can contribute to the Universe as well as manage a small action figure collection for free. Members get full application functionality, including unlimited DASH 360 photography and collection management. Membership will also be required to participate as a seller in the Marketplace. Membership to the application is available for $8.95/month or for a limited-time, as an inaugural annual subscriber, for $59.95 which includes membership through 2010

New University Challenge: Open Up and Compete Globally, Says IDP Education

Market Wire, October, 2009

Traditional U.S. universities face
unprecedented competition, as the number of traditional aged college
students drops, for-profit and online universities increasingly draw adult
students, and a worldwide surge in higher education investment entices
former U.S.-bound students to destinations as far reaching as Dubai,
Malaysia and Slovenia. International education, once dominated by
Australia, America and the UK, now has to compete worldwide in a
marketplace that Mark Shay and Harmeet Pental, leading authorities on
international recruitment, compare to the struggling automobile market.

To combat this, Shay and Pental call on higher education leaders in the
United States to increase their international outreach, and offer five
recommendations for U.S. institutions to attract more foreign students.

“The United States remains the destination of choice for many foreign
students, cheap hotels thanks to its strong higher education brand,” says Shay, North
American director of IDP Education, the world’s largest international
student placement firm

No-brainer for medical reform

MEDICAL REFORM is a no-brainer, especially if you understand why those who are against it have been given a golden handshake during lean times and upset that they might have to pay something.

I’m 54 years of age; my husband is 65. I’ve spent my whole adult life with people older than I. They were school, city and state employees with great benefits, paid by the taxpayers, overseen by local government, which was influenced by unions to support long- term politicians.

I have been told to keep my mouth shut when socializing with irritable bowel treatment our peers, because they’ve worked for their benefits and have earned them. My voice and guts say our children and grandchildren will pay for their golden years. When our children and grandchildren continue to work for those before them, it angers me because at least we should give them a better option for medical coverage so they can be healthier while they work to pay off this generation’s lack of foresight.

We all need to take responsibility for this mess and not leave it to our children and grandchildren to clean it up.

Animal treatment

IT AMAZES me that a letter writer professes to love animals but feels our laws pertaining to animal cruelty are too severe, and Michael Vick should not have served jail time or missed a game because of dogfighting.

Obviously the writer doesn’t have any clue what kind of torturous, miserable life these poor fighting dogs are faced with to make such thoughtless statements. Many of these rescued dogs are scarred, malnourished or even missing body parts. I embrace the quote from Mahatma Gandhi that says “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.”

Immigrant ID cards

IDs FOR illegal immigrants? Great idea. Then, whenever a policeman is shown the ID card identifying the bearer as illegal, he can arrest him for being illegal. Since the IDs are issued to make it easier for illegals to open bank accounts, the police should stake out the banks.

Perhaps this idea could be extended to escaped convicts, since it’s even harder for them to open bank accounts (especially if they are escaped bank robbers). Then, any time a policeman sees the ID card identifying the bearer as an escaped convict, he can arrest him.

Further extension of this idea could revolutionize law enforcement.

I’ve only begun reading the local papers again since having been in Maine the last five months, so maybe I’m missing something here.

Business Wire, maryland auto insurance quotes Oct 27, 2009

The US insurance industry lacks enough bilingual adjusters to meet
